The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8 Vouchers)
The Housing Choice Voucher program is the federal government’s primary program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and accessible housing in the private market. A family that is issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit of the family’s choice, in the community of their choice, where the owner agrees to rent under the program. Our waiting list is currently accepting applications; please stop by our office or call to have an application mailed to you. Our waiting list prioritizes those who are homeless, disabled and/or are survivors of domestic violence.
VASH Vouchers for Veterans
In 2013, the Division of Housing selected Housing Solutions to administer newly created housing vouchers specifically for veterans, called Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers, which were recently approved for this area. It is significant that the Veterans Administration has selected our area to receive these new vouchers. In the past, VASH Vouchers were only available for veterans in metro areas.
