Housing Choice Vouchers
The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8 Vouchers) The Housing Choice Voucher program is the federal government's primary program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. A family that is issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit of the family's choice, in the community of their choice, where the owner agrees to rent under the program. Currently, we serve approximately 130 families on this Program. Because of government cutbacks and sequestration, no additional families are being accepted into this program at this time. The waiting list is closed.
VASH Vouchers for Veterans In 2013, the Division of Housing selected Housing Solutions to administer newly created housing vouchers specifically for veterans, called VASH vouchers, which were recently approved for this area. It is significant that the Veterans Administration has selected our area to receive these new vouchers. In the past, VASH Vouchers were only available for veterans in metro areas. The Veterans Administration is in the process of setting up the program and we are hoping to have more information in the next couple of months. Until then, please call our office for a list of resources for veterans.
