Housing Issues in the Local News

Two facts from a recent Durango Herald article: A case of good news/bad news

The Good News: Children from low-income families in La Plata County in Colorado did better financially by their mid-20s than children from low-income families elsewhere. At least from 1996 to 2012…

The Bad News: Median rent in Durango, Colorado jumped from $995 to $1,214 last year. More than a 20% increase…

One has to wonder how the recent spike in rent will impact families and children of low-income families in the future.

Energy Outreach Makes a Difference!

The Energy Outreach Program has helped 56,000 families in Colorado this season with utility assistance.  Housing Solutions and the La Plata Family Center are working with applicants in La Plata County.

I would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to everyone at Housing Solutions for the assistance you have given to our family with our utility bills. I never imagined that we would be in a financial situation like the one we are in and needing to ask for help. Finding your program was a huge blessing and your kindness has greatly uplifted our spirits.  —Dave and family
